Heating up a wintry MayFest

Review: Weather doesn't stop students from dancing, partying during a cold, snowy MayFest celebration.

The cold weather and occasional snow wasn't enough to scare away the Syracuse University students looking for free food, drinks and music at Walnut Park for University Union's annual MayFest celebration Friday.

And, if you weren’t expecting to see Tigger and Elmo dancing on stage dressed as Scoop Jardine and Kris Joseph, you were in for quite a surprise.

After weeks of criticism from students, up-and-coming house DJ Kaskade, alt-rockers Cold War Kids and Phantogram are set to entertain thousands in the Carrier Dome.

Is anyone going to Block Party this year?  That might be a question you hear around campus lately.

After University Union announced last month Block Party 2012 would feature DJ Kaskade and alt-rock act Cold War Kids, some students quickly vocalized their displeasure for the choices. 

Past Block Parties brought acts such as Kid Cudi, Nas, Kanye West and N.E.R.D., so expectations for big name artists this year were high again. 

Phantogram to play at SU

Multiple concert listing outlets are reporting that indie pop band Phantogram will be playing at Syracuse University on April 27.

Although Syracuse has the largest indoor arena within 260 miles, major concerts and community events are rare because of its commitment to Orange athletics and campus activities.

Looming over the Syracuse skyline is a 527,320 square foot mass of gray cement on the campus of Syracuse University. Though bland to the eye on its exterior, the building frequently radiates orange and the emotion of fervent fans from the inside.

The Carrier Dome is a staple of the university, providing a lifetime of memories for its guests. It welcomes students on preview days, bids them farewell during commencement and hosts countless events in between.

Kid Cudi to headline Block Party in April

Fellow artists Nas, Damian Marley to join rapper at SU's Carrier Dome show.

On Friday, Syracuse University announced that rapper Kid Cudi will headline their spring "Block Party", which is the school's biggest concert of the year.  The show, which will be held at the Carrier Dome at 7 p.m. on April 29, will feature Cudi, as well as hip-hop, reggae artists Nas and Damian Marley.
