For the second straight year the Orange has started its season 18-0.

It was more of the same for the No. 1 ranked Syracuse basketball team Wednesday night at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pa. Their opponent, Villanova, struggled to score efficiently from deep and Syracuse effectively used its depth, length and athleticism to its favor. The end result was a dominant 79-66 victory that was never in question.

Sophomore guard and Philadelphia native Dion Waiters scored a game-high 20 points in front of friends, family and a fairly quiet crowd.

Waiters scores a career-high 22 points as the Orange remains unbeaten.

The No. 1 Syracuse men’s basketball team (11-0, 0-0 Big East) won its eleventh straight game to start the season after defeating the North Carolina State Wolfpack (6-4, 0-0 ACC) 88-72 Saturday at the RBC Center in Raleigh, N.C.

The Orange had five players score in double figures. Sophomore guard Dion Waiters led all Syracuse scorers with a career-high of 22 points off the bench, senior forward Kris Joseph scored 21, and senior guard Scoop Jardine scored 16.

The Syracuse University men's basketball team, ranked No.3, fights off a late push by No. 9 University of Florida in the annual Big East-SEC Challenge to remain undefeated.

With less than four minutes remaining in the game, senior guard Scoop Jardine hit a critical 3-pointer to put No. 3 Syracuse (8-0, 6-0 home) up by 8 points in their biggest game so far this year. After that shot, No. 9 Florida (5-2, 2-2 road) was unable to come back and eventually fell 72-68 to the Orange Friday night at the Carrier Dome as part of the Big East-SEC Challenge.

Men's basketball team gears up for the regular season with a victory over Saint Rose in their final exhibition game, 87-69.

Despite an obvious edge in talent, Syracuse went into the half of its final exhibition game tied before finally putting away Saint Rose, 87-69.

In the last four seasons, the Syracuse women’s basketball team has posted three 20-win seasons and four consecutive winning seasons. During this time, the women’s team has transformed from an often dreadful team to a consistent postseason contender.

In anticipation of one of the biggest games of the year, students have been camping out at the Carrier Dome for the best seats at Saturday's SU-Villanova showdown.

There is a buzz surrounding the SU campus this week, and it’s not because students are back for spring semester classes. Saturday, the third ranked men’s basketball squad will welcome seventh ranked Villanova into the Carrier Dome.

SU escaped with another narrow victory in the Carrier Dome against N.C. State Saturday night.

The old saying in sports is no matter how arduous a task or how ugly it is, a win is a win, even if you’re a top ten college basketball team. The eighth ranked Syracuse Orange have played in a few tightly-contested games more than head coach Jim Boeheim’s liking. They continued their cardiac-kid style of play with a 65-59 victory over North Carolina State Saturday night at the Carrier Dome.

Syracuse used a big second half to run away from upset-minded Northern Iowa in its season opener Friday night.

There were no glass slippers or carriage rides home Friday night for the University of Northern Iowa. The Panthers, one of last season’s Cinderella stories, ran out of magic against Syracuse as they fell to the Orange, 68-46.

Syracuse shrugged off a slow start and exploded for 45 points in the second half to pull away from the pesky Panthers. The Orange were led by Kris Joseph and Rick Jackson who each chipped in 14 points. Freshman Dion Waiters also scored in double figures for Syracuse as he chipped in 10 ­– seven of which came in the first half.

After a shocking loss to Le Moyne a year ago, Syracuse showed the Dolphins who's boss in the Carrier Dome with a 91-48 win Tuesday night.

The Carrier Dome was filled with 10,546 fans hoping for some revenge Tuesday night after they witnessed a 79-82 defeat to a Division II school last season. The fans wound up witnessing a 91-48 victory and earning a little reassurance in the process before the games start counting.
