Court gives Syracuse cop lesser sentence

Former Syracuse police officer gets sentence reduced after 2006 DWI crash.

A former Syracuse police officer was taken back into custody this morning in Onondaga County Court after an appellate court reduced his sentence in a 2006 DWI crash. Derek Backus' incarceration isn't expected to last long since he's already served eight months of the one-year sentence imposed by the Supreme Court Appellate Division in Rochester. 

Public opinion shifts in favor of health care overhaul

New poll shows dramatic change in recent weeks

According to the latest Associated Press – GfK poll, the American public is split evenly – with 40% in favor and 40% opposed – on federal health care legislation. 

This comes just weeks after a September poll reported that 49% of Americans opposed congressional health care proposals while just 34% supported them.
