According to ESPN and NFL sources, the New York Jets plan to bring back veteran running back LaDainian Tomlinson for the final year of his contract. Tomlinson turns 32 in June but the Jets want to continue to use the 3 RBs in their backfield (Tomlinson, Shonn Greene, and Joe Mcknight).
Iranian National Olympic Committee threatens to boycott 2012 Olympic Games in London because logo resembles word 'Zion.'
The Secretary General of the Iranian National Olympic Committee, Bahram Afsharzadeh, has submitted a letter to International Olympic Committee President Jacques Rogge threatening to boycott the 2012 Olympic Games in London because the logo looks like the word "Zion," according to ESPN.
The word Zion is used to refer to the city of Jerusalem in the Bible, and Afsharzadeh is urging other Muslim countries to follow Iran's lead by also protesting the "racist logo."
New concussion field test quick, effective on sidelines.
Starting next season, all NFL teams will use the same test to determine whether a player that has taken a hard hit to the head can return to the game. "The NFL Sidelines Concussion Exam" is a mix of multiple field tests used by professionals to determine concussion syndromes, according to CNN.
Head coach Lovie Smith signs 2-year contract extension
Coming off of a trip to the NFC Championship game, the Chicago Bears gave head coach Lovie Smith a 2-year contract extension that will continue to 2013, according to ESPN.
Lovie Smith has been the head coach of the Chicago Bears since the 2004 season and has compiled a record of 63-49. The amount of wins he has in his Chicago Bear coaching career is third in franchise history, only behind Mike Ditka and George Halas.
Orange look to avenge their NCAA Tournament loss this Sunday.
The Syracuse Orange men's lacrosse team takes on Army this Sunday at 4 p.m. at the Carrier Dome, as seen on the SU Athletics page. This is the second game this year for the Orange who are 1-0 after defeating the Denver Pioneers in their opening game (coverage of last week's game by NewsHouse can be found here).

St. Louis Cardinals ace Adam Wainwright will have Tommy John surgery on his right elbow and miss the entire 2011 season, according to ESPN. Wainwright went 20-11 with a 2.42 ERA last season, finishing second in the National League Cy Young voting. He is just one of four pitchers the past two seasons to have at least 400 strikeouts and an ERA under 3.00.

BOSTON -- The NBA has seen a drastic change in teams before the trade deadline at 3 p.m. today. The Celtics are the latest to get involved and traded several players to acquire Jeff Green, among others, from the Oklahoma City Thunder, according to ESPN.
Carmelo Anthony puts up 27 points in his first game since being traded to New York.
Carmelo Anthony got off to a dream start in the "Big Apple" after months of trade speculation. The former Syracuse University forward made his debut for the New York Knicks Wednesday night at Madison Square Garden. Anthony scored 27 points along with 10 rebounds as the Knicks won 114-108 over the Milwaukee Bucks.
Syracuse University's football team has a strong group of fullbacks going into spring training.
This time last year, Syracuse University only had one true fullback on its roster. This year, it has five. Carl Cutler was moved from playing tight end in the 2009 season to being the only fullback for the 2010 season.
After Cutler tore an ACL, SU head coach Doug Marrone needed to think quickly. Former linebackers Adam Harried and Shane Kimmel, as well as walk-on Robert Nieves, were used as SU’s fullbacks. Soon after, a fullback who was a junior college transfer, Tombe Kose, joined the team.
