Former fraternity pledges at Cornell University have pleaded not guilty to the death of a fellow student.

Three former fraternity pledges at Cornell University have pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor charges linked to the alcohol-related death of a fellow student after a mock kidnapping, according to The Post-Standard.

Nineteen year old George Desdunes was found unconscious at the Sigma Alpha Epsilon house on Feb. 25 and was pronounced dead shortly after. Police say his blood alcohol content was 0.35.

Flash floods still impacting Syracuse

Hiawatha Boulevard remains closed from flooding.

With Tuesday's thunderstorm touching down on Syracuse just before rush hour, one street still remains closed. Hiawatha Boulevard just outside the city is one of the main roads used to get to the Carousel Center as well as Interstates 81 and 690. The city's Department of Public Works says that all roads are re-opened except the portion of Hiawatha between Spencer and Pulaski Streets.

Upstate Medical University to award honorary degrees at graduation

Two people to receive honorary degree at 2011 Upstate Medical University commencement.

Upstate Medical University is planning to award two honorary degrees at its commencement on May 22, according to The Post-Standard. Recipients include Mary Ann Shaw, a community leader who spearheaded the fund-raising campaign for the Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital, and David Botstein, a renowned geneticist and pioneer of the Human Genome Project.

Syracuse spring gets more rain than anticipated

This month has given meaning to the phrase, "April showers bring May flowers." So far this month Syracuse has seen 5.48" of precipitation, according to the News Channel 9 weather department. A warm front is expected to move into Central New York today leading to steady rain and thunderstorms.

Judge says stain evidence can be considered Casey Anthony case

A Florida judge ruled today that the jury will be able to consider a stain found in the trunk of the car belonging to mother and accused murderer Casey Anthony. Prosecutors believe Anthony stashed her dead 2-year-old daughter in the same trunk, according to CNN.

Rob Murphy has left the Orange for a head coaching job at Eastern Michigan, according to The Post-Standard.  Murphy was introduced as the head men's basketball coach today at a press conference in Ypsilanti, Mich.

Martino's Glass Co. building catches fire, closes intersection in East Syracuse

No one reportedly injured in afternoon fire at corner of West Manlius, James Street.

SYRACUSE, NY -- A building in East Syracuse caught fire earlier today as smoke consumed a nearby intersection, according to The Post-Standard.  No injuries have been reported yet, but the cross-street of West Manlius and James Street was closed to traffic.

Most of the smoked accumulated in the garage door of a Martino's Glass Co. building as firefighters entered by breaking down the door.  

Upstate halts property renovations due to back taxes

According to The Post-Standard, Upstate wants to turn of its high-rise apartment buildings into upscale housing for medical students and doctors. 

No village tax increase for East Syracuse for fourth consecutive year

East Syracuse residents won't have to worry about village taxes in 2012.

The East Syracuse Village Board has created the 2011-12 fiscal year budget. The new plan will have no village tax increases for the fourth year in a row, The Post-Standard reports. The tax rate remains at $13.50 per $1,000 of assessed value.
