Yankees finalize deal with Joe Girardi

New York's skipper signs a new three-year contract

Less than a week ago, Girardi and the Yanks were eliminated from the playoffs in six games by the Texas Rangers in the American League Championship Series, according to ESPN.

But Girardi will be all smiles today.

The Yankees signed the 46-year-old manager to a new three-year contract worth $9 million. The deal will keep Girardi in pinstripes through the 2013 season. The deal also puts Girardi among the top five highest-paid managers in the game, according to ESPN.

Girardi replaced Joe Torre after the 2007 season and has two postseason appearances as the club's manager. The Yankees won the World Series under Girardi last season, the first for the Yankees since 2000
