Yankees don't wait to make push for Lee

Team representatives traveled to the pitcher's hometown to sit and talk about a possible contract.

New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman met with free-agent pitcher Cliff Lee, his family and his agent in Arkansas on Wednesday night to persuade the left-hander that he should make his way northeast to play in the Bronx next season.

Cashman is using to his advantage the fact that Lee's good friend, C.C. Sabathia, would join him atop the Yankees rotation for the next several seasons.

Because Lee is the gem in this year's free agency pool, his agent, Darek Braunecker, is expected to seek a contract similar to Sabathia's seven-year, $161 million deal, according to ESPN.

Despite the fact that Cashman is traveling to meet with Lee and his family, the left-hander is not expected to make a decision until the winter meetings early next month.
