A woman who killed her boyfriend in a 2002 DWI crash was sentenced today to one year in jail for her most recent DWI conviction, according to The Post-Standard.
Karena Bergery, 39, from Ontario, Canada pleaded guilty Jan. 26 to a felony count for a DWI case that happened Nov. 29, 2008, in East Syracuse.
Onondaga County Judge William Walsh sentenced Bergey today to one year in the Onondaga County Correctional Facility in Jamesville.
Eight years ago, Bergey was known as Karena Ziverts and lived in the town of Onondaga. She was charged with a DWI and vehicular manslaughter in the death of boyfriend David Carr in a crash that happened in Oswego County.
Bergey pleaded guilty in 2003 and was sentenced to serve 1 ½ to 4 ½ years in state prison.
Assistant District Attorney Frank Pelosi said Bergey’s jail sentence today was imposed because of her prior conviction.
