Florida Gators' head coach Urban Meyer says he is stepping down for the second year in a row, according to ESPN. Meyer left the team last December, citing health problems as the reason, however he returned to the job just days after that announcement. This time, Meyer did not say whether his health was an issue.
"At this time in my life, however, I fully grasp the sacrifices my 24/7 profession has demanded of me, and I know it is time to put my focus on my family and life away from the field," said Meyer, in a statement released by the school on Wednesday. He says he is very proud of the players he has been able to coach over more than two decades of coaching, but he wants to have an opportunity to watch his own kids play sports, as well.
Meyer has the best winning percentage of any active major college coach, with at least ten seasons of coaching experience. All-time, Meyer is 64-15 at Florida, and has won two national championships. He will coach his final game on New Year's Day in the Outback Bowl against Penn State, coached by Joe Paterno, who has the most wins by a coach in college football history.
