The family of the Rutgers University student who apparently committed suicide last week has confirmed that the teen committed suicide by jumping off the George Washington Bridge, according to CNN.
Clementi apparently committed suicide after a video that invaded his privacy was broadcasted. According to New Jersey authorities, the webcast of the 18-year-old showed him in a sexual encounter.
Dharun Ravi of Plainsboro, New Jersey, and Molly Wei, of Princeton New Jersey allegedly placed the camera in Clementi’s room without telling him. Both students have been charged with two counts of invasion of privacy after they allegedly broadcasted Clementi’s sexual encounter. Ravi's attorney did not return phone calls from CNN and according to CNN, Wei does not have an attorney. Both students were released from custody earlier this week.
According to CNN, a law enforcement source confirmed that Clementi’s cell phone and wallet were both found on the George Washington Bridge. The New York City Police Department also said that the police harbor unit recovered the body of a male Wednesday afternoon from the Hudson River.
