Toyota Motor Corp. is issuing a recall of 2.17 million vehicles sold in the United States, according to Yahoo! News. Toyota said the recall addresses gas pedals that can get stuck under floor mats or carpeting.
This is not the first recall Toyota, the world's No. 1 car company, has issued. Since 2009, Toyota has recalled more than 14 million vehicles for safety concerns, according to the Yahoo! News article. The Japanese auto company said it would add 600,000 2003-2009 4Runner SUVs; 761,000 2006-2010 RAV4 compact SUVs; and 17,000 2008-2011 LX 570s to its 2009 recall, which addressed gas pedal entrapment.
In addition, Toyota said it is also recalling 372,000 RX 330, RX 350 and RX400H cars with model years from 2004 to 2007; 397,000 Toyota Highlander SUVs and hybrid versions with model years from 2004 to 2006; and 200,000 GS 300 and GS 350 all-wheel drive cars with a 2006 model year.
The car company's spokesperson Brian Lyons said Toyota did not know of any accidents caused by the recalled vehicles, according to the Yahoo! News article.
