Syracuse man charged with burglary of a school

He was caught after fleeing the building, according to police.

Police say a man has been charged following a break-in at McKinley-Brighton School Monday morning. An officer responding to a burglary alarm at about 12:51 a.m. arrived at the school and saw a window open, and then called for backup.

The Post-Standard reports that the officer saw someone put a garbage bag in a window and start to leave the school. The suspect fled from the officer but was caught be other officers in a fenced area, according to police. The garbage bag contained a portable stereo, police said.

Christopher Artis, 42, of 316 W. Pleasant St was identified by police as the suspect. He was charged with third-degree burglary, a felony, and attempted petit larceny, a misdemeanor, police said.
