The Syracuse Orange men's lacrosse team takes on Army this Sunday at 4 p.m. at the Carrier Dome, as seen on the SU Athletics page. This is the second game this year for the Orange who are 1-0 after defeating the Denver Pioneers in their opening game (coverage of last week's game by NewsHouse can be found here).
The game is a significant early season battle after what happened in last year's NCAA tournament. The second-seeded Orange were stunned by the Black Knights in a 9-8, double overtime game. Earlier last season, Syracuse beat Army in a 12-7 win.
Both teams are ranked in the latest Nike/Inside Lacrosse media poll. Syracuse is ranked No. 1 while Army sits at No. 17.
The Black Knights are currently 1-1 after suffering a setback against UMass but are rebounding with a win last week against VMI.
Much is ado about the "revenge" factor heading into the game. Many Syracuse fans are hoping for a victory to help ease the pains of last year's shocking end to the season. The team is downplaying the storyline, however, and is more focused on an early season win more than anything else.
The Orange had a balanced attack in their win against Denver, receiving two goals apiece from attackmen JoJo Marasco, Stephen Keogh, and Tim Desko, as well as midfielders Jovan Miller and Josh Amidon. They won the game 13-7, largely due to a 6-goal first quarter.
Sunday's game will be televised on Time Warner Cable Sports and SNY. A women's game at 1 p.m. vs. Virginia precedes the men's game.
