Syracuse lacrosse pulls out another comeback against Cornell

Also, four dead including three children in Chicago and the baseball world champions get their rings.

The Syracuse men’s lacrosse team pulled off another comeback win against Cornell at Schoellkopf Field last night. In a rematch of last years NCAA Championship game. The Orange came from a 7-5 deficit halfway through the fourth quarter.

Last year during the Championship game the Orange went into the fourth quarter with a three goal deficit. And rose back and beat the Big Red 10 to 9 in overtime.

Senior Chris Daniello was the hero of the night, scoring the winning goal a second before the final horn sounded.

Despite pulling out the win the Orange fell behind the Big Red in shots, ground balls, and faceoffs.

Freshman JoJo Marasco who was a bright spot in SU’s lineup took a hard hit early on in the game. He limped off the field and did not return. Coach John Desko was not sure of the extent of Marasco’s injuries. (Syracuse.com)

 

Four dead including three children in Chicago shooting

Four people are dead and two injured after a man went on a shooting rampage on Chicago’s south side this morning.

According to police the suspect found his wife who fled from their Madison, Wisconsin home after he started beating her in his mother’s house, in Chicago. The suspect then proceeded to shoot his wife, who was pregnant, his 7-month-old son, his 16-year-old niece, who was also pregnant, and another 3-year-old.  The suspect then turned and shot his mother, who later died at the hospital. The suspect's 13-year-old nephew called 911 to report the shooting, and was then shot in the cheek. He is in critical condition at Advocate Christ Hospital. The suspect's 12-year-old niece fled the house with her 7-month-old brother while her uncle shot at her. The suspect's grandmother is also in critical condition at Advocate Christ Hospital.

Police have the suspect in custody, but have yet to release a motive for the shooting. (WGN-TV via CNN)

 

World Series champions get rings

Before the New York Yankees faced the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in their home opener they were give their World Series rings in a ceremony before the game.

Each team member was given their ring by Hall of Fame-ers Yogi Berra and Whitey Ford. Manager Joe Girardi and Captain Derek Jeter visited owner George Steinbrenner in the owner's suite before the game to present him with the first ring. Steinbrenner’s health has been deteriorating in the last few years and has kept the once public owner to turn over the everyday operations to his sons.

The Yankees capped off the celebratory day with a 7-5 win over the Angels before a sold out crowd of 49,293 people, the largest regular season attendance in the stadiums 2-year history.  (Sports Illustrated via CNN)
