Syracuse lacrosse prepares for Siena in NCAA Tournament

The Orange earns the top seed as it looks to avoid another first round upset.

For the Syracuse University lacrosse team, last year's shocking first round NCAA Tournament exit against Army is still fresh in its mind as it gets ready to host Siena on Sunday night in the Carrier Dome, according to the Post-Standard.

The Orange (14-1) found out Sunday night that it is the No. 1 seed in the annual 16-team "May Madness" bracket. SU's first obstacle on its path to a 12th national title comes against Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference champion Siena (13-4). Syracuse beat the Saints in the first round of the NCAA Tournament back in 2009 en route to winning its 11th championship in school history. That was the last time the schools met.

A year ago, SU entered the tourament as the No. 2 seed looking for its third consecutive NCAA crown, only to be upset by Army, 8-7, in overtime. Orange senior attack Stephen Keogh tells the Post-Standard, "We kind of relive it everyday."

Syracuse concluded its regular season on a five-game winning streak after its only loss of the season to Cornell. During that stretch, the Orange outscored its opponents by nearly nine goals per game, including a 20-6 win over St. John's on Saturday.
