In the winter of 1992-1993, 192.1 inches of snow were recorded making it the snowiest winter in Syracuse -- only 14.4 inches more than this year, according to The Post-Standard.
177.7 inches of snow have fallen this season bringing it to fourth place on the all-time snowiest winters list. The 2003-2004 winter comes in at third place with 181.3 inches.
Syracuse Hancock International Airport recorded 3.5 inches of snow after yesterday's storm. The National Weather Service in Binghamton reported surrounding areas like Broome County and Tioga country got about 8 inches of snow, with Steuben County as the high-spot with about 11 inches.
The weather conditions have made some wonder when spring and warmer temperatures will arrive in Syracuse. According to Dave Nicosia, the low temperatures will continue all throughout March.
“It’s basically going to be like January,” said Nicosia, a meteorologist with the weather service’s Binghamton office.
As cold airs continue to come in to the area from Canada, the Syracuse area will experience low temperatures until at least next week, according to The Post-Standard.
April should see highs around 48 degrees and lows around 29 degrees, which are normal for this time of year. Temperatures should climb above the freezing mark starting Sunday. The weather service has predicted sunny skies for the rest of the week, with warmer temperatures beginning Sunday.
