SUNY chancellor proposes new job strategy

Plus, Chinese coal ship destroys part of the Great Barrier Reef and Congolese-American poet and rapper to speak at Fowler High School.

The Chancellor of the State University of New York is proposing a plan to help graduates get jobs in New York, according to Syracuse.com

SUNY Chancellor Nancy Zimpher's "Strategic Plan for 2010 & Beyond" is aimed at integrating academics with entrepreneurial opportunities on SUNY's 64 campuses. The plan includes programs to bring local entrepreneurs to SUNY campuses and create a global networking system for SUNY students, according to Syracuse.com

The plan is scheduled to be released in New York City this afternoon, according to Syracuse.com.

Great Barrier Reef left damaged

A two-mile stretch of Australia's Great Barrier Reef is destroyed, according to CNN.com. Last week, a Chinese coal ship ran over the reef.

Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority Chairman Russell Reichelt says the toxic paint on the coal ship scraped off the ship and onto the reef. He says repairing the damage could take years and may be the largest restoration ever pursued on the reef.

Congolese-American poet and rapper to speak at Fowler High School

This week is Genocide Awareness week, according to Syracuse.comTo spread awareness about genocide in the Congo, Syracuse University'sSTAND: A Student Anti-Genocide Coalition has scheduled to bring Congolese-American poet, rapper and speaker Omekongo Dibinga to Fowler High School tomorrow, according to Syracuse.com.

Dibinga is a Les Brown Platinum speaker, according to Syracuse.com. He is studying international education policy at the University of Maryland.

Dibinga's parents are Congolese refugees. He is scheduled to speak on genocide at 12:45 p.m. in the Fowler High School auditorium.
