Student Association at Syracuse University is looking to adopt a program that will make the campus smoke-free over the next three years, according to the Daily Orange. College for Change, a state-funded program ran through Onondaga County Health Department, is the basis of the operation. The program aims to decrease tobacco use on campus, partnering with 21 colleges in the state.
The program mirrors a similiar one at State University of New York Buffalo and will get stricter as time goes on. An assembly representative, Liz Mikula, says that her one concern is that the ban will force students outside at night in empty parking lots and this may raise opposition from other students.
