According to The Post-Standard, St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center announced this morning that it is buying North Medical P.C., the largest private primary practice in Central New York.
North Medical was created in 1989 and currently has more than 450 professional and support staff. The practice serves more than 320,000 patients annually and have five practices: Family Physicians, The Women's Place, Orthopedics & Rehabilitation, Urgent Care and Living Proof Longevity Centre.
This acquisition will lead to one of New York State's largest health care networks and comes as a result of health care reform.
"We have made this strategic business decision to help stabilize our network and ensure we have enough primary care physicians," Ted Pasinski, St. Joseph's president, said.
A similar move was made by Crouse Hospital, which recently bought Internist Associates of Central New York, a primary care practice.
