Sports Illustrated debuts swimsuit cover

Russian model nabs cover, a first for the magazine.

People Magazine reports the cover of the 2011 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue has been released. The announcement came during last night's "Late Show with David Letterman." Russian Irina Shayk was revealed as the featured model and said she was definitely not expecting it.

Shayk is the first Russian to nab the annual issue's exclusive cover. It was her fifth time being photographed for the magazine. When Shayk first heard the news she immediately called her mother and sister in Russia. She said the two are her biggest fans. Another fan of Shayk's is her boyfriend, soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo. Shayk managed to beat him to the cover of the famous magazine.

Perhaps the biggest surprise of the cover announcement came from learning about Shayk's eating habits. The model revealed she doesn’t diet and loves to eat everything. She relies on her personal trainer to keep her body well toned.

Shayk told David Letterman her fellow Sports Illustrated models were very happy for her accomplishment. She described the swimsuit edition team as one big happy family.
