Southern Sudan votes on separation from north

Country gets closer to splitting into two nations.

The African nation of Sudan, a country plagued by national conflict, is close to breaking into two different nations, according to CNN.

The African country has been in conflict for the past two decades because Arab Muslims in the north disagree over government issues with black Christians in the south.

One of the main reasons for the conflict is the south of Sudan owns many of the countries oil reserves. The conflict between the two sides has resulted in 2 million people dead.

Millions of voters are set to cast ballots, including people who left the country to go to the United States and seven other countries. If the voters choose to split up Sudan the two sides will have to reach agreements on currency, citizenship and national debt.
