School lunches get an upgrade

Plus, Former Divine Brothers Co. executive pleads guilty to stealing money from the company and Katherine Heigl leaves 'Grey's Anatomy'.

The Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010 was cleared for a final vote by the Senate on Wednesday, according to CNN.com.  The goal of the bill is to replicate a program started in Berkley, California that gave students healthier food to eat at lunch.  The goal is to reduce rates of obesity and diabetes in kids, but no information has been collected yet that shows students are actually healthier.

With this program, students get free daily breakfasts and have a salad bar at lunch.  An example of one of the lunches they serve are glazed pork chops and white beans.  The goal is to serve healthy foods that can be found anywhere in the United States, not just places that have a lot of organic food, like Berkley, California.

So far, Boulder, Colorado is the only school that has followed Berkley, California in implementing this program.  However, Ann Cooper, who oversaw the initial developments of this project, says she suspects that other schools will soon follow.
