According to CNN.com, The U.S. Postal service lost $ 3.8 billion in the 2009 fiscal year, and proposes to drop Saturday deliveries for 2010.
The agency has already reduced expenses by $ 6 million during, but that included eliminating 40,000 jobs and having to reduce overtime hours and lowering transportation related costs.
The Postal service hopes that this could be the answer in saving money.
My Take: This is an issue that affects everyone all over the United States. Mail is a form of communication and even though we do have mediums like the Internet, mail is still the original form. If we they choose to cut it off one more day- it may affect businesses and jobs.
According to Syracuse.com, Cayuga County’s tentative 2010 budget will take hold on property taxes and will lower spending.
The budget is about $ 1.4 million less than this year’s budget and the average tax rate will drop by one cent.
County lawmakers will start reviewing the tentative budget this month with a mandate to approve the final one by Dec. 20. A date for the public hearing has not been scheduled yet.
My Take: I think this is important because taxes have always been a debate in counties and communities and we are finally seeing taxes being lowered and not raised.
Sean Kirst, a Post-Standard columnist, has organized a contest for the residents of Syracuse.
Kirst asks people to guess the time and day in which the Syracuse Hancock Airport will get an inch of snow. According to Syracuse.com, he was inspired by the mild November and sight of skateboarders in the Clinton Square ice rink.
The winner will receive four passes for a day of ice-skating along with four half-moon cookies from Mimi’s Bakery & Cafe.
My Take: since this website is local, I thought this was appropriate and fun to include at the end of my post. We all know the weather has been crazy and this was a good way to utilize the absurd warmness.
