Sarah Palin gets 'rock star' treatment

Sarah Palin supporters braved the cold and began lining up the night before she was to arrive at a mall in Grand Rapids, Michigan for a book signing.

Sarah Palin supporters braved the cold and began lining up the night before she was to arrive at a mall in Grand Rapids, Michigan for a book signing. This was the first stop of her publicity tour for her memoir Going Rogue. On the tour, Palin will be traveling on a brightly painted bus. She has chosen to visit mostly small, republican-friendly areas of the country.

My take: This story is newsworthy because a former vice presidential candidate is being treated like a huge celebrity. Palin can be seen in interviews with the top reporters on every major news channel. This book is gaining much publicity throughout the country. It seems like just not that long ago people were hating on Sarah Palin during her political run with Senator Mccain and now she is being treated by many as a hero.

SU officials say plan to relocate books is “On-Hold”

Syracuse officials have announced that the plan to move books from Bird Library to a location four hours away from campus is “on-hold”. According to syracuse.com, students are still protesting and petitioning to keep books and other materials as close to campus as possible. Officials are now looking at whether they can get science journals in digital form to free up space in the science library to make more room at Bird library.

My take: This is a newsworthy story because it has caused much controversy on campus. When officials were discussing shipping books four hours away, students were very vocal about the fact that this would pose a problem if they needed a book for the next day.

Kellogg waffle shortage

Kellogg says there will be a nationwide shortage of its frozen waffles until next summer because of production problems. According to usatoday.com, a plant in Atlanta was shut down due to a storm with heavy rainfall.  Supermarkets across the country will have the normal quality of Eggo waffles by the summer of 2010.

My take: This a newsworthy story because we do not often hear about a large company like Kellogg having a shortage of one of their popular food products. It will be interesting to see what type of effect this shortage will have on Kellogg’s profits for the year.
