The House ethics committee's chief counsel recommended that Charlie Rangel be censured by the House of Representatives. Rangel, a U.S. Representative for New York, was found guilty of multiple violations of House rules.
According to The Post Standard, Rangel pleaded Thursday for "a drop of fairness and mercy." Chief Counsel Blake Chisman called for the censure, despite Rangel's plea.
An ethics subcommittee found evidence of Rangel's guilt on 11 counts, according to CNN. Penalties ranging from a fine to expulsion could be recommended. A censure is typically considered to be the most serious penalty short of expulsion.
