Police say 17 protestors were arrested in Albany today, according to The Post-Standard. At least 100 people in opposition to Gov. Cuomo’s budget cuts demonstrated at the NY Capital, chanting and blocking the central stairway and hallways for an hour.
Protest organizer and board member of the group VOCAL New York, says they oppose funding cuts for programs meant to aid the poor. One of the people arrested was Jennifer Flynn, an AIDS activist, who said it was unfair of Cuomo to target the most vulnerable people.
Those arrested were charged with disorderly conduct, arraigned before a judge and released later today. Many of them have vowed to return to Albany.
