Price Chopper buys P&C

Plus, British Prime Minister defends and Brett Favre still unsure

P&C stores are getting a little more help from its friends.  Price Chopper Supermarkets announced it will buy five of the stores from Tops Friendly Markets. P&C has been in financial trouble since filing for bankruptcy earlier this year, and Tops bought 79 failing P&C stores back in January for $85 million.

Syracuse.com says the new Price Chopper stores will be in Canton, Gouverneur, Massena, Potsdam, West Carthage and Lincoln, N.H.  P&C has been in financial trouble since filing for bankruptcy earlier this year.

Neil Golub , President and CEO of Price Chopper, said the chain hopes to take over all the stores by April, according to the Post Standard.  The Schenectady-based store will now have 125 locations.

British P.M. speaks about Iraq War

British Prime Minister Gordon Brown says the Iraq War was the “right decision”.  The New York Times says despite criticism of the war in the past, Brown defended his decision to go into Iraq with American troops, but is still skeptical about the United States’ planning for the future.

In front of a small panel, the New York Times reports Brown said British authorities decided there was no hope of a diplomatic settlement in Iraq and military action must be taken.   The supposed knowledge of weapons in Iraq furthered the need for an invasion.

Brown’s speech on the effects of the Iraq war comes with a national election approaches.

Brett Favre still staying quiet

Brett Favre says he isn’t sure whether he’ll be back next season.  CBSSports.com reports Favre probably won’t make the decision or announcement in the near future either.   Favre appeared on The Tonight Show to talk about his career, but wouldn’t give Jay Leno the inside scoop.

The former Green Bay Packer had one of his best seasons after switching to the hated gold and purple of the Minnesota Vikings.  And the Vikings would love to have him back.

Head coach Brad Childress doesn’t mind waiting for his decision. Even if he has to wait until after training camp again.
