President Obama will travel to Denmark this week to meet with the International Olympic Committee (IOC), USATODAY reports. U.S. Olympic officials hope to bring Chicago to the table as the host for the 2016 games but competition includes Madrid, Rio de Janeiro, and Tokyo.
Until yesterday, First Lady Michelle Obama was the intended spokeswoman for the Chicago. Now, the President will join her in hopes of bringing the Olympics to the their hometown.
“I think having the leader of the free world there supporting the bid sends a good message and I think that’s why everyone is so exited about the fact that he’ll be able to go,” says Michelle Obama.
A U.S. bid team will pitch Chicago to IOC voters on Friday.
My Take: The Olympics are the ultimate symbol and peace and as the last US Olympics were held in 1996, there is reason to put another US Olympics on the table. I think it’s important from a political and humanitarian perspective.

SUNY schools may raise their tuition for out-of-state students, Syracuse.com reports. New York’s comptroller says that State University of New York schools charge about $8,400 less for undergraduates who live out-of-state than other public universities across the country.
The controller says that SUNY schools can increase their revenue by $340 million over four years if they were more in line with the other public universities.
My Take: As a student at a private university, tuition is always on my mind. For someone who attends a SUNY school as an out-of-state student, this raise is can be seen as unfair. That being said, the priority should be the proposed revenues helping more students within the state of New York.
According to People.com, Adam “DJ AM” Goldstein’s death has been ruled as an accidental drug overdose and not suicide. Goldstein was found dead in his New York City apartment on August 28th and the New York City Medical Examiner’s office are now saying that the drugs in his system included cocaine, Levamisole, oxycodone, and hydrocodone.
Last year, Goldstein and friend Travis Barker were the only two survivors of a small plane crash in South Carolina. People.com reports that Goldstein never emotionally recovered from losing his friends on the plane.
My Take: This death is another celebrity tragedy. It’s worse because he survived a plane crash only a year ago and made a full recovery but his drug abuse killed him in the end anyway.
