President Barack Obama promised healthcare reform during his first term in office. According to two democrat officials speaking with CNN, Obama will sign the new healthcare bill into law today.
The new bill is the biggest expansion in the healthcare system in four decades. Obama plans to sell the plan to skeptics in a speech in Iowa City, Iowa on Thursday says White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs. Obama was ecstatic, giving out high fives and hugs, when he learned the bill passed, according to white house aides.
The community organizing group ACORN is planning to close down its operations according to CNN. Falling revenues have caused ACORN to close its state affiliates and field offices by April 1st and then develop a plan to pay off its debt according to a statement by ACORN. ACORN says it is proud of the work it has done, "ACORN members have worked hard to create stronger communities, a more inclusive democracy and a more just nation." ACORN CEO Bertha Lewis says it has faced relentless attacks from the right-wing.
After Google chose to redirect millions of mainland China internet users to its uncensored Hong Kong website, China has responded. According to the New York Times mainland Chinese users were unable to see uncensored Hong Kong searches because the government blocked links to certain results or disable particular searches. Google hopes to uncensor China while participating in the growing Chinese Internet search market. China says this will not affect relations with the United States.
