President Barak Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama filed for a joint tax return. Their adjusted gross income came to $1,728,096. The couple paid $453,770 in total federal tax, and $51,568 to Illinois in state income taxes, according to People.
President Obama's main income was from from the sales of his books, according to a White House Press release.
The Obama's donated $245,075 to 36 charities. Their largest charitable gift was to the Fisher House Foundation for $131,075. The Fisher House Foundation provides free or low cost lodging to veterans and military families receiving treatment at military medical centers. Some other charities the couple donated to in 2010 were the Clinton-Bush Haiti Fund, the United Negro College Fund, Hispanic Scholarship Fund, and the American Indian College Fund.
Vice President Joe Biden and his wife, Dr. Jill Biden, also filed jointly. The Biden's reported adjusted gross income came to $379,178 and they paid $86,626 in total federal taxes for 2010.
