The Yankees beat the Phillies last night 7-3 to win the World Series. Hideki Matsui received the World Series MVP for his 6 RBI performance last night. New York has won 27 World Series titles, the most in the majors, but hadn't won the Series since their 2000 campaign. This is captain Derek Jeter's 5th championship. Manager Joe Girardi has won as a player and now as a manager.
My take: The fact that the World Series was decided last night, I figured it would be the lead. Very few time does sports lead but on an occasion of a championship game, then it's different.

Howie Hawkins, who has ran for public office and lost 15 times here in Syracuse, was arrested yesterday and appeared in City Court to enter a plea of not guilty. Hawkins was charged with criminal trespass when he tried to deliver a letter to the CEO of Wellpoint Inc, stating that his salary be cut and put into healthcare.
My take: I chose this story because Hawkins just ran for election for Common Council two days ago. The story is very relevant because he is a local politician that constantly loses but keeps trying. The fact that he was trying to deliver a letter to a health insurance provider in that manner was funny.
The American Medical Association and the AARP have put support behind the House's plan for health care reform. The 1.1 trillion dollar bill will likely come to a final vote Saturday in the House. The AMA does not support health care reform usually, so their endorsement is surprising. President Obama told Congress to listen to both groups so they can understand how to better reform health care.
My take: This is an enormous step in getting reform passed. That's why I chose it. Plus, the detail about the AMA not usually backing health care reform shows how important reform is in getting past. SInce the bill is going to be voted on Saturday, it's very timely.
