Nets secure Carmelo Anthony

Denver Nuggets, New Jersey Nets reach tentative trade deal.

Last month, ESPN reported New Jersey Nets owner Mikhail Prokhovo said he was done chasing Carmelo Anthony. But today he reached a tentative trade agreement with the Denver Nuggets for Anthony. In a two-team trade, the Nuggets will receive Devin Harris, Derrick Favors, Troy Murphy, Ben Uzoh and four first-round draft picks. The Nets will receive Carmelo Anthony, Chauncey Billups, Sheldon Williams, Melvin Ely, and Renaldo Balkman.

Anthony is a free agent this season, allowing any team to sign him, and has wanted a trade since the beginning of the season. There is still much to be done and agreed to before any trade happens and the current agreement is only a possibility. Anthony will meet with both the Nets and Knicks this weekend in Los Angeles. The New York Knicks have also been mentioned in possible trades for Anthony.

Anthony was drafted by the New York Knicks out of Syracuse in 2003, when he won a National Championship with the Orange. This is his eighth season with the Nuggets.
