George Washington University will be home to the NCAA's first transgender basketball player this season, according to CNN. Kye Williams, a junior forward who was a member of the team the last two seasons (as a woman), will be returning to the team again this year, but as a male.
Williams said that the University, his coaches, and his teammates have been very supportive of his decision. He began to admit to people during his sophomore year that he was "a man trapped in a woman's body", according to CNN.
According to NCAA rules, Williams will not be allowed to take any testosterone-enhancing drugs, but will still be allowed to play basketball listed as a different gender. Williams will become the first openly transgender basketball player in the NCAA when the Colonials play at North Texas on Nov. 17.
