According to ABCNews.com, Microsoft Corp. launched its new software on Thursday. Windows 7 is considered by many to be Microsoft's most important release in over a decade. A number of customers were extremely disappointed by the Windows Vista application. Microsoft is the world's largest software company and is responsible for over 90 percent of personal computers. The new software is said to be a lot faster than previous versions and now possesses touch-screen capabilities. With the release of Vista three years ago, Windows 7 is key to the company's success, as Window's accounts for more than half of Microsoft's income.
My Take: As a Windows user myself, it's refreshing to see that this new version has received good reviews already. Vista did not satisfy customers in any way so this new system should return Microsoft to the prominence it once had over the computer world.
According to Syracuse.com, Former Onondaga County Executive Nick Pirro endorsed Republican Candidate Steve Kimatian as mayor of Syracuse this morning. At a news conference held at the Convention Center which bears his name, Pirro spoke about Kimatian's assertive attitude in his campaign and his willingness to finished development projects which had stalled in the past. He also touched on how the city has a unique opportunity to elect Kimatian, who brings a different approach to the position of mayor. Pirro himself is a lifelong resident of Syracuse and has been elected as Countu Executive five times.
My Take: I had the pleasure of attending the morning's news conference between Kimatian and Pirro. Hearing a man who is as well respected in Central New York as Pirro lend his complete support to Kimatian will certainly change the stances of some local citizens and can do nothing but benefit Kimatian in the long run.
According to ESPN.com, the teammates of slain UConn cornerback Jasper Howard will be ready to play against West Virginia on Saturday. Sophomore wide receivers Kashif Moore and Mike Smith were with Howard when he was fatally stabbed at a school dance last Sunday. UConn Head Coach Randy Edsall said both players will take the field with the rest of the team this weekend. The Huskies will wear helmet stickets with Howard's initals and will bring his jersey and helmet to Morgantown, WV for the game. Howard's funeral is scheduled for Monday morning in his hometown of Miami. A viewing is also scheduled for Sunday morning.
My Take: As a college student, it's easy to forget that the athletes we see on TV are still young adults like the rest of us and are not invincible to tragedy. Howard's death is a sad story that has stunned the college football world. The efforts of his teammates to honor him is something special and he will surely not be forgotten.
