Agent Scott Boras helped free-agent first baseman Mark Teixera sign an 8-year, $180 million contract with the New York Yankees in 2008 and earlier this morning Teixera fired him, according to ESPN. Despite the split, Boras had nothing but nice things to say about the slugger.
"Mark and I had a very cordial conversation," Boras said, according to ESPN. "Our company had the great honor of working with Mark for over a decade. It was privilege to see him grow into one of the best players in the game, become an All-Star and a World Series champion and win a contract that recognizes him among the game's elite players. We wish him the best moving forward."
Teixera's contract has him playing with the Bronx Bombers through the 2016 season and he plans to continue to pay Boras' commission the rest of the way.
As far as finding a new agent goes, Teixera has nobody lined up at the minute but he says there's no rush right now.
"There's plenty of time for that," he told ESPN.
