Kansas becomes college basketball's new No. 1, Syracuse falls to No. 17

Two losses this week to ranked opponents causes SU's ranking to drop outside top 15.

The Associated Press announced a new No. 1 in college basketball today.  The Kansas Jayhawks took advantage of an Ohio State loss on Saturday to become the best team in the country followed closely by the Buckeye's and their Big 12 rival, the Texas Longhorns, in the AP Poll.

Syracuse came into this week on a two-game winning streak, having ended their four-game slide by beating two conference foes on the road, including then No. 6 Connecticut.  However, losses at the hands of Georgetown and Louisville caused the Orange to fall to No. 17 in this week's AP Poll.

The Big East currently has seven teams in the top 25, tops for any conference in college basketball.  With the tournament lurking right around the corner, 11 teams from the conference believe they have a shot to make it.

Syracuse will be looking to rebound this week as they have lost six of their last eight games, including three consective losses at the Carrier Dome. A loss tonight to West Virginia would give the Orange their longest home-losing streak in almost 50 years. They lost a record 12 straight over two years in 1961 and 1962, according to ESPN.
