Jim Boeheim's former assistant coach introduced as head coach at Eastern Michigan

Rob Murphy spent seven years as Boheim's assistant. Now he's at the helm at Eastern Michigan.

Rob Murphy has left the Orange for a head coaching job at Eastern Michigan, according to The Post-Standard.  Murphy was introduced as the head men's basketball coach today at a press conference in Ypsilanti, Mich.

Murphy signed a 5-year contract worth $210,000 after working under Jim Boeheim and the Orange as an assistant coach for the past seven seasons. Murphy says he's thankful to Boeheim for his time spent at SU, but says the new position is a dream-come-true.

“Eastern Michigan is a perfect fit, it’s not a stepping stone for me,” Murphy said. “This is a dream for me.”

The Eastern Michigan Eagles were 9-22 overall playing in the Mid-American Conference last season.
