The Syracuse Invitational Sporthorse Tournament began this morning at the Oncenter Complex. According to The Post Standard, transforming the ice rink to a horse ring took 16 hours with 40 workers.
The transformation took place last Saturday night after the Syracuse Crunch hockey game. First, workers removed the hockey glass, bleachers and nets. The ice was then covered with compressed paper flooring and plastic to protect it from the horses.
Some arenas melt their ice before big events, but War Memorial chose to keep their ice intact. The decision was made because of the extensive work it takes to embed the Crunch's logos into the ice.
The horse show runs from today until Sunday. The Crunch will resume practice at War Memorial next Friday.
More information on this weekend's events can be found at the Tournament's website.
