Plus, Connecticut power plant blast kills five and the New Orleans Saints win their first Superbowl

Gov. David Paterson met with Democrat leaders to discuss his re-election plans after many questioned the unproven accusations surrounding his personal life, according to Syracuse.com.  Though Paterson's spokesman said the meetings were routine, an anonymous Democrat said the discussions involved whether or not Paterson would resign or make an announcement that he would not run.

Since the day he took office Paterson has dealt with accusations of drug use and sexual affairs. He is currently amid a conflict with other Democrats after he vetoed a widely favored ethics bill last week.

Connecticut power plant blast

A gas explosion at an under construction power plant in Connecticut killed five people on Sunday, according to CNN.com.  The explosion also injured at least 12 people and was heard up to 20 miles away.  Workers were purging a natural gas pipeline when the explosion happened.

The exact number of how many were working at the plant when the blast occurred is currently unknown.  However, Deputy Fire Marshal Al Santostefano said no one has mentioned any missing names, and no signs of life have been detected underneath the rubble.

Saints win Super Bowl

The New Orleans Saints won their first National Football League championship over the Indianapolis Colts last night in Miami.  Although the Colts were the pre-game favorites, the Saints won the game 31-17, according to espn.com.  The Colts led 17-13 with 6:15 left in the third quarter, but the rest of the game belonged to the Saints.

A 47-yard field goal and a 2-yard touchdown pass, followed by a complete 2 point conversion, gave the Saints a 24-17 lead with 5:42 left to play.  They sealed their victory with a 74-yard interception return by Tracy Porter with 3:12 left in the game.  Saints quarterback and MVP, Drew Brees, said the game was much more than the Superbowl, but a representation of the rebuilding of New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.
