Future Pope Benedict XVI failed to defrock abusive priest

Plus, President Obama's first big speech after the passage of health care reform and a new tax on tanning.

The future Pope Benedict XVI and other top Vatican officials failed to defrock an American priest who molested deaf boys.

The Reverend Lawrence Murphy sexually abused more than 200 boys from the 1950s through the 1970s at the St. John's School for the Deaf in Wisconsin.

Father Murphy was never disciplined, and died in 1998.

Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, the future Pope, granted Murphy leniency.

Secret documents the New York Times obtained from the Vatican show clear evidence of Father Murphy's misconduct and the priority of avoiding scandal.

President Obama will speak about health care reform at the University of Iowa today.

It will be his first big speech since the landmark legislation passed in the House of Representatives.

The speech marks the beginning of a national tour in which the President will sell the benefits of health care legislation outside of Washington D.C.

CNN reports that White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs says 16,500 people have signed up online for tickets to hear Obama speak today.

Health care bill harms tanning salons

The historic new health care bill isn't only going after insurance companies, it's hurting tanning salons.

The bill imposes a 10 percent tax on people who "fake bake" in indoor tanning beds.

CNN reports $2.7 billion over ten years is estimated to be generated from the tax.

The tanning tax will take effect July 1 and won't affect spray tanning or tanning lotions.
