Four SU students flying out of Cairo today

Students studying abroad transferring to other programs in Middle East, Europe.

The four students studying via SU Abroad in Egypt at the American University in Cairo were safely evacuated to a safe haven in Istanbul, Turkey, The Daily Orange reports. All four students had the option to transfer to the London program, another Middle Eastern program or to return to SU.

There was a strict one-bag limit due to the evacuation efforts from Egypt. Some students had to leave a bag behind or take personal belongings out if their luggage was too heavy.

Jon Booth, Executive Director for SU Abroad, said he's satisfied with the University's efforts.

"I think it was a fantastic university team effort to support these students and their families as they've gone through this disruption," Booth told The Daily Orange.

Three students will enroll in the Istanbul abroad program while another will study in Beirut, Lebanon.
