Four people killed in D.C. shooting

Plus, a Syracuse diner closes its doors for good tonight and a NFL linebacker claims arresting officer hit him.

A fourth victim of a shooting in Washington D.C. died early this morning according to CNN.com.  Three others died late Tuesday night during the same assault.

Police say that multiple shooters opened fire on a crowd Tuesday night, and ended with the shooters sending police on a lengthy chase.  Police caught and arrested three men, and recovered one assault rifle according to Metro Police Chief Cathy Lanier.

A total of seven males and three females were injured, and six others remain hospitalized.  Police would not tell CNN what the sexes are of the deceased.

Another person was shot nearby at the same time, but officials would not say if the incidents were related.

Syracuse diner to close

Doc’s Little Gem Diner on Spencer St. will close its door tonight for good according to Syracuse.com.  The owner, Francis “Doc” Good, said that today will be the last day for the ’50s-era diner after owning it for 12 and a half years.

Good bought the diner in Oct. of 1997, but it has been in service in Syracuse since 1958.

Expanding the restaurant might have saved it, but the bank would not loan Good the money for the restorations.  Good claims that he has to turn people away constantly that will not wait for one of the 52 seats in the diner.

One of the other factors that lead to the decrease in business is the indoor smoking band that forced smokers to eat at home, or on Native American land where smoking is still allowed.  Another factor was the hard times that have fallen on our country, because people became more conscious of how they are spending their money.

Good, 76, does not know what he is going to do now, because he cannot afford to retire.  He says that he will miss his workers and feels particularly bad for them now that they are unemployed.

Porter claims officer hit him

Arizona Cardinals linebacker Joey Porter claims that his arresting officer hit him on Saturday according to ESPN.com.  Porter was arrested early Saturday morning in California on suspicion of drunken driving.  He is also accused of assaulting an officer and resisting arrest.

Sgt. Larry McGuire says that Porter’s claim is being investigated, but there is no investigation against Porter’s arresting officer.

Porter’s attorney says that Porter did not slap the hand of the officer, and that Porter was under the legal influence of alcohol.

The Cardinals released a statement saying that they are aware of the arrest, but are in the process of getting all the facts from that night.
