Ever since President Barrack Obama was elected, First Lady Michelle Obama has been determined to reduce obesity in America, according to The Post-Standard. Her anti-obesity campaign, “Let’s Move!” is celebrating its on-year anniversary this week.
Mrs. Obama is taking action in various ways to reduce obesity. She has pushed for healthier school lunches, easier-to-understand nutrition labels and her most recent task – taking on the restaurant industry.
The First Lady’s goal is to get restaurants to serve smaller portions and make the children’s menu healthier, according to the New York Times.
A former commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration, Dr. David Kessler, told the New York Times Mrs. Obama has worked hard to help the FDA look at food differently.
“The food industry will change when consumers change what they want,” Kessler said.
But some, such as former Deputy Assistant for George W. Bush Brad Blakeman, argue the First Lady’s methodology is too much. He says it should not be up to the government to decide what we eat.
