A first-grade student at East Hill Elementary School in West Genesee died after suffering a seizure in school today, says Syracuse.com.
Sarah Peek, 7, had the seizure during her afternoon gym class and then later died at a hospital, says Superintendent Chris Brown. He also says Peek had an existing medical condition, but he did not say anything else about her health issue.
Brown says one of Peek's goals in life was to ride the bus to school, and that's something she accomplished during her time going to school.
Counselors are available to speak with parents, students, and faculty at the school Thursday, said Brown.

Captain Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger directed his final flight for U.S. Airways this afternoon. Sullenberger had worked for U.S. Airways since 1980.

After the incident, Sullenberger took a break from flying to write a book and speak about aviation issues. He returned to the cockpit last fall, and he ended his career today with a flight from Fort Lauderdale , Fla. to Charlotte, N.C.
The Indianapolis Colts said today that quarterback Peyton Manning had surgery yesterday to remove a pinched nerve from his neck.
The procedure is not expected to affect Manning's offseason workouts or his availability for next season, says ESPN.com. The Colts said Manning had the pinched nerve for four years, and they said the medical staff thought it would be a good idea to remove it now.
Manning has started in 210 consecutive games including the playoffs. His run is second in the N.F.L. behind only Brett Favre.
Despite the streak, Manning has needed offseason surgery two of the past three years. He also had knee surgery in July 2008 to repair an infected bursa sac.
