Deadly crash in Hastings kills one, injures two others

Plus, three people are dead after a plane crashes into a Palo Alto home, and Tiger Woods is breaking his silence on Friday.

A head-on collision on Route 11 in Hastings left a West Monroe man dead and two other people injured, said state police.

Thomas E. Holmquist Jr., 19, 790 county Route 11, was ejected from the passenger's seat of a truck and pronounced dead at the scene by police.

Asha L. Reichel, the driver of the truck, and Cory E. Dinant were taken to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse. Their injuries are not life threatening, said state police.

Reichel and Dinant were both wearing seat belts, but Holmquist Jr. was not, said Trooper Tim Phillips.

The accident happened at 9:56 a.m. when Reichel was driving south and crossed into the northbound lane, hitting Dinant's car straight on.

The incident occurred a little north of the Route 11 intersection with Barker Road. According to The Post Standard, Route 11 was closed for about six hours between Barker Road and the north side of Perfield Road.

Three People are Dead after a Plane Crashes in a Palo Alto Neighborhood

All three people on a twin engine plane died earlier this morning after it crashed in a Palo Alto neighborhood, a spokesperson for the Federal Aviation Administration said.

The Cessna 310 struck one house around 8 a.m., just seven minutes after it took off from Palo Alto Airport, FAA spokesman Ian Gregor said.

Menlo Park Fire Chief Harold Schapelhouman told the CNN affiliate in San Francisco that the plane hit a utility tower, slid down a road, and then hit a house. The crash caused two houses and many vehicles to catch fire, Schapelhouman said.

Around 28,000 people lost power when the plane smacked a transmission tower, the City of Palo Alto said on its website.

The visibility was poor in the area, but Gregor does not know if the weather caused the incident. He also said the cause of the crash is still unknown.

According to CNN.com, the victims' identities are not being released until later on.

Tiger Woods is Breaking his Silence on Friday

Tiger Woods is ending his three month silence Friday when he talks to the public about his car accident and infidelity.

Woods is talking on Friday at 11 a.m. from the clubhouse at the TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.

Mark Steinberg, Woods' agent, says the event will include Woods' close friends, associates, and colleagues. Woods plans to apologize and lay out his plan for the future.

Woods is not answering any questions from reporters. The Associated Press, Reuters and Bloomberg are the only media outlets invited to the gathering.

ESPN.com says this is Woods' first public appearance since November 27, which was the day he crashed his car into a tree. Since then, Woods has only made comments through his website.
