Cornell gets a grant

Plus, Michelle Obama makes a pit stop in Haiti and Webby Award nominees are announced.

Cornell University received a grant to study American obesity, according to syracuse.com.  Cornell is one of the ten universities around the United States to get a chunk of the $11,000 federal grant.  The university is set to get nearly $500,000 for the study.  The U.S. Department of Agriculture'sNational Institute of Food and Agriculture says the study will focus on how behavioral choices affect obesity.

First Lady in Haiti

Michelle Obama made a surprise visit to Haiti today, according to cnn.com.  Obama stopped in Haiti on her way to Mexico with Jill Biden, Vice President Joe Biden's wife.  The two landed in Port-au-Prince then traveled by helicopter around the area.  A statement from the White House says Obama and Biden made the trip to show the Haitian government the U.S. wants to continue helping Haiti with its earthquake relief efforts.

Webby Award nominees announced

The nominees for the Webby Awards have been announced, according to cnn.com.  The Webby Awards are awards given out for excellence in online content.  Everything from funny clips to websites to movies can be nominated.  Nominees this year include comedian and host of the Colbert Report Stephen Colbert, The New York TimesThe Onion, comedian Zach Galifianakis and Twitter.  The prizes will be given out in New York on June 14 after judges including Martha Stewart and David Bowie choose the winners.
