China wants Obama to cancel meeting with Dalai Lama
Today Ma Zhaoxu, spokesman of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, issued a statement advising U.S. President Barack Obama to "immediately withdraw" from his scheduled meeting with the Dalai Lama. China insisted that the meeting puts US/Chinese foreign relations at risk. Despite the warning, White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said that the president has no plans to cancel his Feb 18 meeting with the Tibetan leader. China has resented the Dalai Lama since the 1950s, when he led an unsuccessful rebellion against the Chinese government.
Lincecum, Giants avoid arbitration
The San Francisco Giants have signed pitcher Tim Lincecum to a new deal. The deal will pay the two-time Cy Young Award winner $23 million over the next two seasons. The deal was made just before arbitration was set to begin. The arbitration panel would have decided whether the Giants had to pay the 25-year-old $8 million (what the Giants had offered) or $13 million (what Lincecum was asking for) for next season.
Camillus Police Chief Says Arrests will be made after Basketball Brawl
Camillus Police Chief Thomas Winn said "there will be criminal charges" filed after a fight that occurred during a basketball game at West Genesee Middle School on Monday night. Police are still reviewing a video, trying to decipher who hit who during the melee. The incident was sparked by a foul during the third period of Monday night's high school-level Camillus Youth Basketball Association game. About 30 students and adults stormed the court after the play.
