Former Vice President Dick Cheney is hospitalized today after experiencing chest pains, according to his staff. He is currently in stable condition at George Washington University Hospital.
Cheney, 63, is able to walk and talk but will be kept overnight for tests and observations, says a family source. This is not the first time the vice president has had to be hospitalized due to a heart condition.
Since 1978, Cheney has had four heart attacks, one of which took place after he was elected vice president in 2000. In 2001, Cheney received an implanted heart monitoring device to keep track of his heart rhythm and in 2008 he underwent a procedure that would help restore the natural rhythm of his heart without the device.
CNN's chief medical correspondent Sanjay Gupta says Cheney is in good condition.
"They're not doing active procedures on his heart," Gupta said. "It's obviously a good sign."
Liverpool residents speak out against school closings
Community residents gathered a meeting with school board members today to question the closing of two elementary schools in Syracuse.
Superintendant Richard N. Johns has proposed the closing of Wetzel Road Elementary School and Morgan Road Elementary School due to budget cuts in Syracuse. Parents and residents questioned the effectiveness this would have on the budget and in the future. Pat Ruf, a former substitute teacher, said that he sees a population growth in Syracuse rather than a decline.
"The trend is going to continue," Ruf said. "If the elementary schools are closed now the district will have to spend more money in the future to restructure buildings or build a new school."
In a new interview with People magazine, Lindsey Lohan talks about her downward spiral onto the path of drug and alcohol abuse and how she still managed to come out afloat.
"I tried to mask my problems with alcohol, cocaine and mind-altering substances," Lohan said. "Now I'm in a place where I don't need to use anything and I can feel emotions because I choose to."
In 2007, Lohan was arrested twice for drunk driving, once for cocaine possession and checked herself into rehab three times. Lohan says her abusive behavior was mainly a response to her father, Michael Lohan's, public media exposure of the family.
"I learned from my mistakes, and I'm now healthy and happier," she said. "I've made some dreadful mistakes but learned from them -- that has probably saved my life."
