Buddy Ryan's cancer returns

Disease strikes former NFL coach, father of Jets' head coach.

According to a New York Daily News report, Buddy Ryan once again has cancer. Buddy is the father of current Jets' head coach Rex Ryan and a former head coach himself.

The elder Ryan coached the Philadelphia Eagles during the 1990s and is best known as being the mastermind of what many consider the greatest defense of all time, that of the 1985 Chicago Bears. Buddy came up with and implemented the 46 scheme the Bears used en route to a Super Bowl victory.

This is his third bout with cancer.

"It's going to take more than this to get rid of him," Rex Ryan told the Daily News. "That's what he always says."
