West Virginia's governor predicted today would be a "big day" for the four miners-- unaccounted for after a deadly explosion Monday, CNN.com reports. A hole was drilled early this morning and pipes were lowered into the hole. Officials banged on the pipes in hopes of communicating with but there was no response Governor Joe Manchin said.
The first hole was drilled into the Upper Big Branch South Mine at about 4:15 a.m. ET this morning. Two more holes were under way, and a fourth is planned. The holes were drilled in hopes of ventillating the mine after high levels of methane and carbon monoxide sent rescue teams home early Tuesday due to the threat of another explosion. A high pressure exhaust fan has been put in place of the pipes to air out the mine, Manchin said. Officials said they will know later today or early Thursday whether the air is clear enough to send rescuse crews back underground.
"Today is going to be a big day," Manchin told CNN.com. "I think at the end of the day, we'll have more knowledge than we have right now."
Lady Gaga made her way to Syracuse, but it wasn't the pop star that you'd expect. Police found 400 bags of a a tan powder that tested positive for heroin in a Syracuse man's pants, the Post-Standard reports. Each bag was stamped in red ink with the words "Lady Gaga". Jeffrey J. Williams, 27, of 1016 Hawley Ave., Apt. 2, was met by Syracuse Police Special Investigations Division at the Regional Transportation Center as he stepped off a bus from New York City.
The Syracuse Police acted on a a tip that a large amount of heroin was being delivered. Police found 15.6 grams of heroin with an estimated street value of up to $6,000, police records state. Williams was charged with two felony counts and a misdemeanor count of criminal possession of a controlled substance.
Jon Gosselin told msnbc.com that he plans to file a petition for full custody of his eight children with Kate Gosselin. Jon Gosselin says that he is supportive of Kate's stint on "Dancing with the Stars" but that the filming has taken away time from her kids. Jon's lawyer Anthony F. List reportedly plans to argue that Kate should also pay Jon spousal support if he gets full custody.
In response to the allegations, Kate's attorney Mark Momjian confirmed that he had received no such petition for custody or spousal support.
"We're not going to comment on something we haven't seen. We haven't been served anything. It's hard to respond to hearsay comments," Momjian told MSNBC.
